An Arsenal of Skin & Haircare for a Hospital Stay

I've never had to stay in a hospital overnight before, and I was in three days total for a hysterectomy due to endometriosis. I wasn't allowed to shower for the first two days, because of the incision and not being able to really walk. I made sure I had plenty of lotion and cleansers and easy to grab things to keep myself feeling clean during my stay.

Keep reading after the jump for a list and reviews of what I used while I was recovering in the hospital. Pictures coming soon once I can get out of my bed!

I do not have thin hair. Lately it's been falling out due to stress, but you'd never know it because I have so. much. hair. I use the Bosley dry shampoo mainly because it smells clean. It has a minty smell, and it makes me feel cleaner if my hair smells like mint. This is a great dry shampoo for people with soft or thinning hair that's super straight. Flip your head upside down and spray your roots for extra volume. You're welcome

The Body Shop - Mango Body Butter
I cannot give up The Body Shop's body butters. They're super thick and last forever, and they have the best fragrances. I think I have five of the huge tubs in various scents, but I brought the Mango with me because it's a purse size. It smells like the freshest, ripest mangoes all over your skin and it's the shit. It keeps your skin hydrated for a long time, without feeling greasy ever. My mom got me stuck on this stuff years ago and I can't quit it.
Make sure you hit up the sales Ulta has on this line. Sometimes they're Buy one Get one 50% off, so you can get two tubs for like $30, and one tub is almost a year's supply. I recommend the Argan Oil one. I want to eat it most days.

Vichy Purete Thermale 3-in 1 Calming Cleansing SolutionI've talked about this before, and I love micellar water. It's a really gentle way to cleanse your skin, especially if you have sensitivities to everything. It takes away the dirt and grime of the day, but not your natural skin chemicals. It's a great cleanser for if you haven't been outside or doing any activity really, so this was the perfect cleanser for me to use while laid up in a hospital bed.
ProTip: Put it in the refrigerator during the summer. You're welcome.

I'm 28 and I constantly get asked what I use on my skin, because I do not look my age. I always tell people around my general age to start using anti aging products. You can stave off wrinkles for quite a while, but once they're there, you can't really get rid of them permanently without a lot of money and another hospital stay.
I love this eye cream because one pump is enough for both eyes. Use your ring finger and tap it entirely underneath the eyes, the eye lids, and up above the brows to combat expression lines. A little goes a long way, and this stuff truly works to diminish puffiness and get rid of dark circles. Nothing is going to entirely rid you of undereye darkness, and that's okay. This does lessen it. I had nurses all day every day telling me how nice I looked, and I didn't wear makeup while I was in the hospital. This stuff is why.

I'm not a regular passenger on the 10000% ORGANIC VEGAN CLEAN skincare and cosmetics train. I understand the need for it, because people do have legitimate allergies. I don't. However, I absolutely love this brand. It's a skincare brand that actually  makes sense to me. Instead of diluting their products with water, they use organic aloe, grape, or apple juices. All of the ingredients are antioxidant packed, and that shit is known to be good for your skin. Natural antioxidants will sink into your skin better and faster than synthetic products will. That makes sense to me, and this moisturizer is the freaking jam. It's not greasy, it doesn't leave a film on your face, it's a HUGE jar. You need such a small amount to cover your entire face and neck area. It smells like fruit loops or dandelions or some shit. I love it, and it works.

I had actually not even used this yet before tossing it in my hospital bag. The last day of my stay I was allowed to shower, and was really impressed with this line. I've heard rave reviews about the Carol's Daughter line, and was pretty excited to get to try some of it. I've got very dry, naturally curly hair. Sometimes it's more wavy, other times I have ringlets. It really depends on the products I use. I earned a long time ago shampoo and my hair don't much agree, so I avoid sulfates and silicones (when I can help it) in pretty much all of my hair products. This stuff smells awesome, and my hair is so freaking soft. I didn't add anything to it product-wise to keep it from frizzing, because I was in the hospital and really couldn't give a shit. I did get several compliments on my hair while in the hospital as well. Maybe it's just a nurse thing, and they compliment you so you feel better/heal better idk. Compliments are the shit and I'll allow them all the time. The description of this stuff is hilarious, but the shit works, so keep doing what you're doing, Carol.
Using ingredients that only grow in Tahiti, monoi oil is made by taking 15 freshly picked tiare gardenia flower blossoms and combining them with 15 ounces of coprah coconut oil over a 15 day sacred ritual.

Yeah okay. Sounds fun.

I think that's everything I used while laid up in the hospital. I didn't feel gross and sick while I was there, so I guess my arsenal did its job. My skin feels lovely, looks lovely, and I haven't had a breakout in a while, so I'm doing something right. My hair is still a nice shade of lavender and doesn't appear to be fading rapidly, so I'll stick with my hair products too. I think I chose well.
